Frederick S. "Fred" Biletnikoff (born February 23, 1943) is a former professional football player and a member of both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame. He was a wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders for fourteen seasons and later an assistant coach with the team. Biletnikoff retired as an NFL player after the 1978 season, then played one additional season in the Canadian Football League for the Montreal Alouettes in 1980. ==Early years== Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Biletnikoff was the son of Russian emigrants who arrived in the U.S. during the Russian Civil War. In Erie, Fred Biletnikoff attended what was then Technical Memorial High School, now Central Tech, whose athletic field now bears his name. Turning down other notable offers, Biletnikoff chose Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
